How do I Know if my Family will Enjoy the Newest Rides at WDW?

Why does it matter?

Some family and friend groups that travel together have young children. Some guests have issues with Motion Sickness. For both of these types of guests it can be important to know ahead of time if a new attraction is appropriate for some or all of your group! After all, the idea is to have fun!

Rider Swap

Disney has a Rider Swap program for guests who are vacationing with children that are do not meet the height requirement of specific rides. You can also utilize this program if you have a child who is less than enthusiastic about a specific attraction, but both parents wish to experience the ride. How does it work? The whole family waits in line together. When you reach the front of the line, simply notify the cast member that you wish to use Rider Swap.  Then, the guest who is not able to ride waits with parent A while parent B is riding. When parent B returns, it’s parent A’s turn to ride!

Hollywood Studios

Mickey and Minnie’s Runaway Railway is an everyone experience! No height requirement and no reason for concerns for young riders. This attraction was made with the whole family in mind! Join Mickey, Minnie, and Pluto for a picnic in the country! That is…until they meet up with engineer Goofy and things start to go off the rails!

Rise of the Resistance is the latest addition to Batuu In Galaxy’s Edge! Join the Resistance, and foil the Dark Side! If you have little ones smaller than 40 inches, you will want to use Rider Swap so that both parents get an opportunity to ride! There is a small drop, but not even as much as Pirates of the Caribbean! Guests who are concerned with motion sickness should be ok. Note that the Cast Members inside the attraction are playing the part of the Empire and as such do not have the sunny disposition which you are used to seeing at Walt Disney World.

Epcot

Guardians of the Galaxy’s Cosmic Rewind has a height requirement of 42 inches. It is not for everyone. You may use Rider Swap to give both parents the opportunity to ride. If you or anyone in your party has trouble with motion sickness, you may want to consider the aspects of the ride before you choose to ride. Guardians boasts a fast, backward launch! It also has some flashing lights and spinning, and a fantastic soundtrack that any Guardian’s fan would expect! Many guests love this attraction! Some guests have experienced the affects of Motion Sickness. I do not recommend eating or drinking alcohol immediately before your first Guardians of the Galaxy Cosmic Rewind adventure!

Remy’s Ratatouille Adventure is another ride built for the whole family! Join Remy in the race through the kitchen where things go a little wrong! Where else can you ride inside a rat vehicle?

Animal Kingdom

Avatar Flight of Passage is not for the whole family as it has a height requirement of 44 inches. Feel free to use Rider Swap so that both parents have the opportunity to ride! FOP is a 3D flight on the back of a Banshee! There are some thrilling drops, but if you are a member of the motion sickness team you may be able to handle this ride by closing your eyes at the appropriate moments as the drops are a 3D suggestion from the ride movie.

Na’vi River Journey

is a whole family ride through the peaceful Na’vi River. No concerns of motion sickness here for riders of any age!

Magic Kingdom

Tron Lightcycle Run has a height restriction of 48 inches, much like The Rockin’ Rollercoaster at Hollywood Studios. As such, it is not for the whole family, but you may partake of Rider Swap to give both parents the opportunity to ride. Also like Rockin’ Rollercoaster, it boasts a super fast launch and speed is the name of the game! There are some hills as well, but another main aspect of this attraction is the ride vehicle itself. On Tron you are riding on top of the motorcycle type vehicle! Tron opens to the general public on April 4, 2023. If it follows the pattern of opening attractions in recent years, I would expect it to be accessed only through a virtual queue sign up at 7am and possibly a second virtual queue sign up later in the day for those who are already in the park. Make sure to make your Park Reservations for Magic Kingdom for the day you want to ride!

What is Pixie Dust?

First Time Magic   When I was Young…and so was Disney World  My first visit to Disney World was in 1971. I was not excited to be going to Disney. Why? I did not know that Disney existed, much less that I was going there. 1971 was the year that Walt Disney World opened in Florida and I was 5 years old! Whether my Dad kept it a secret so that it would be the ultimate surprise is unclear to me. What I am sure of is that he took us to the most magical place on earth. Operations were very different than they are now, but the one thing that remains the same is that it is still the most magical place on earth.  What is Pixie Dust and how can I Make it Happen on my Trip? Pixie Dust is a magical, unexpected thing that can happen while you are at Disney, but you cannot make it happen. I have heard people recently complain that the magic is gone since the pandemic started. It’s not true. I am sad for these people because they are missing the point. There are two types of...

Signature Dining at The Walt Disney World Resort

One of my favorite things I have a confession. While it is true that I love all things Disney , the attractions, the parades, the fireworks, the characters, the thing I love most at Disney is the dining! Whether I am on a Disney Cruise or visiting the Theme Parks, the dining is my favorite thing! You may not be aware of this, but Disney offers several different types of dining experiences: Table Service, Quick Service, Character Dining , and the coveted Signature Dining!  Why is it called Signature Dining? Disney's Signature Dining locations are named as such because they are each a one of a kind, dining experience. Walt Disney talked about taking an experience and "plus-ing" it. In other words, taking something great and then taking it up another notch. That is exactly what the Signature Dining experience is! What do I need to know? Each of these unique locations is available by reservation and they tend to fill up very quickly! Reservations can be made 60 days bef...

Disney Value Resorts: Which one is Best?

Why are they called Value Resorts?  Pop Century The Disney Value Resorts are called that because they are the least expensive resorts that Disney has to offer. In other words, staying at one of these will stretch that Disney Budget farther. Currently, there are 5 Values: Pop Century , The Art of Animation , All Star Music , All Star Movie s, and All Star Sports .   What amenities and entertainment can I expect at a Value Resort? All of these resorts will have a counter service restaurant, a pool bar, a gift shop, a themed pool near the main building, guest laundry, Movies Under the Stars, and special resort activities at the main pool. In the rooms, you can expect beds for 4 people (2 to a bed) or if you book a suite it will sleep up to 6 people. In the standard rooms and suites you will have a coffee pot with coffee service provided and a cooler/fridge perfect for keeping drinks cold, but not much else. The suites also have a microwave as well as a small supply of p...

Some of My Favorite Things: Hollywood Studios Edition

Hollywood Studios: What can I expect? Hollywood Studios, like Epcot , is not like the MagicKingdom . It is not like Epcot either. So what is it? Originally, Hollywood Studios was a small theme park named MGM Studios. The theming of the park was a day on a Backlot in Hollywood. Everything that was originally there had to do with the making of movies. Though it was my favorite park, it had a problem. It earned the reputation of a half-day park. Through the years, it has changed significantly. Today’s version of Hollywood Studios is definitely a full day park. It still has a movie theme, but the newer attractions are more of immersion into those movies than experiencing a day on a Backlot in Hollywood. Is it still my favorite? Absolutely! Maximizing Your  Let’s get right down to it! You could spend your whole day and only experience a few things if you’re not careful. Pixie Dust Tip: If you only buy Genie+ or Individual Lightning Lanes one day of your trip, I would con...

Why Should I Stay at a Disney Resort?

It is true that you might find one that is cheaper, though I would double check that that is true because you can sometimes get some super good deals at Disney.  Probably one of the biggest reasons to pick a WDW Resort is the discounts. If you book last minute, you might not be able to find a discount, but if you plan ahead when the deals are first coming out, the savings can be anywhere from a little to a lot! To find out how to make sure you are getting the discount you think you are getting, click here . What kind of discounts can you get?
