Walt Disney World's Newest Attraction
New attractions in any of Walt Disney World's four theme parks are exciting! Somehow, when the attraction is in The Magic Kingdom it is even more exciting! After all, this was the first park the Disney Company built in Orlando, Florida! In addition, this is a thrill ride unlike anything else in The Magic Kingdom!
What exactly is it?
Tron Lightcycle/Run is a thrill ride, similar to, but not exactly like a coaster. The thrill comes from the 60 mph ride coupled with a super fast launch (think Rockin' Rollercoaster). There are some hills, but speed and a ride vehicle you sit on top are the main attractions here!
Who can ride?
The height requirement is 48" which is the most restrictive to date and is only shared by Rockin' Rollercoaster at Hollywood Studios. Having said that, you might be wondering why and if someone slightly shorter can ride. The short answer is no, you cannot ride if you are less than 48". Why? Because the restraints are built to safely hold someone 48" or taller in place. The restraint is not designed to keep someone less than 48" in place for the duration of this ride. If you have a party member who is slightly shorter, they should have no trouble riding Space Mountain. If you are unsure if everyone in your party is tall enough, there are two height check indicators, one at the bottom of the ramp, beside the Tron sign, and one just before you enter the part of the queue that goes inside the building. A Cast Member is stationed at the second indicator to help you.
Accessibility
The queue is wheelchair accessible, but not ECV accessible. If you are using an ECV and are not comfortable walking through the queue, you will need to transfer to a courtesy wheelchair at the front of the attraction. All wheelchairs must transfer into the ride vehicle. If you need any help, a Cast Member will be happy to assist you.
The Ride Vehicle
This is not your typical coaster ride vehicle! The closest thing for the purpose of description would be a motorcycle, but it is not exactly that either. The vehicles are designed to lock at the calf muscle. In some instances, a guest with a larger calf muscle may not fit in the calf restraint. It has nothing to do with the weight or size of the rider. There is a test vehicle located outside that you may try if you are concerned about this feature. Should anyone in your party not fit the restraint, there is an alternate ride vehicle they may get in line to ride.
Where can I put my things while I ride?
There is a compartment to store cell phones on the vehicle itself, but it only holds cell phones. However, before you get to the ride vehicles you will walk through a locker room. Choose a locker, put in your things, and use your Magic Band or Park Ticket Card to lock the locker. Note: Disney Magic Mobile will not work for this purpose. Look at your locker number and remember it! Maybe take a picture of it with your phone! When you are finished with the ride you will go back by the lockers, this time on the opposite side, and use your Magic Band or Park Ticket Card to open your locker and reclaim your items.
What else do I need to know?
When you enter the building, be on the lookout for boarding procedures. This too is a bit different from your typical coaster! You always board the lightcycle from the outside. Likewise, when you exit at unload you do so on the outside of the lightcycle. There are signs that show you this process at the load station. When in doubt, a Cast Member will be happy to answer your questions.
What if I get there and realize this ride is not for me?
If you get to the front of the line and realize either you or someone in your party is not going to be able to ride after all, no worries. Just tell a Cast Member and they will direct you to the exit door. After you exit, you will walk by the lockers and can retrieve your things. When your party is finished riding, they will walk a very similar path to exit and reunification should be fairly simple.
When will I be able to ride?
Tron Lightcycle/Run opens to the all guests on April 4, 2023! Expect it to be available by virtual queue and possibly even Individual Lightning Lane, if not immediately then eventually. Remember: In order to access a virtual queue at 7am for your party, you will need to have a park reservation for The Magic Kingdom for each ember of your party. By the way, no need to worry about rain! This attraction does not go down for bad weather, so it is open rain or shine!
